Frequently asked questions
What does Jora Mechanical Systems do in Saskatchewan?
Jora Mechanical Systems is a TSASK-licensed heating, cooling, gas and hot water contractor in Saskatoon. We install and repair furnaces, garage and shop heaters, boilers and in-floor heat, air conditioners, heat pumps, tankless and tank water heaters, ductwork, HRVs and commercial and industrial heating. We don't do general plumbing in Saskatchewan.
What areas do you serve?
All of Saskatchewan — Saskatoon and the communities around it — Warman, Martensville, Osler, Dalmeny, Langham, Delisle, Vanscoy, Clavet, Dundurn, Aberdeen, Hague, Rosthern and Corman Park — plus Regina, Prince Albert, Moose Jaw, North Battleford, Humboldt and other communities across Saskatchewan.
Are you licensed in Saskatchewan?
Yes. Gas work is done under a TSASK gas contractor licence by TSASK-licensed gas fitters with TSASK permits, refrigeration work by Red Seal refrigeration and air conditioning mechanics, and we're covered by WCB Saskatchewan.
How do I get a quote?
Call 905-667-2823 or fill in the online quote form. We visit your home for free, check what you need and send you a written quote with equipment, labour, permits and any SaskEnergy rebate listed.
Do you offer emergency service?
Yes. Our no-heat emergency line is open 24/7 at 905-667-2823. If you smell gas, leave and call SaskEnergy at 1-888-700-0427 or 911.
What brands do you install?
Lennox, Carrier, Trane, Goodman, Kepler, TOSOT, Midea, Gree, Rinnai, Navien, Rheem, Bradford White, Noritz, Reznor, Modine, Mr. Heater, Re-Verber-Ray.
How long does a furnace replacement take?
Most straightforward replacements are done in one day, so you're not without heat overnight. In an emergency in deep cold we can bring temporary heaters while the new furnace goes in.
What size furnace do I need in Saskatoon?
It depends on your home's heat loss at Saskatoon's design temperature (around −35 °C) — insulation, windows, square footage and air leakage — not the size of the old unit. We calculate it during the free visit.
Is there a SaskEnergy rebate for a new furnace?
Yes. SaskEnergy's Residential Equipment Replacement Rebate lists $650 for a 97%+ AFUE natural gas furnace and $325 for 96.0–96.9% AFUE. It must be installed by a TSASK-licensed contractor and you apply within 90 days. We give you the paperwork.
Should I replace my AC at the same time?
If your air conditioner is more than about 10–12 years old, replacing both together often makes sense because the indoor coil and blower are matched. We'll quote both options.
Should I get an AC or a heat pump?
A heat pump cools exactly like an AC and also heats efficiently in spring and fall. In Saskatchewan most homes keep the gas furnace for deep cold, so a heat pump paired with your furnace (a hybrid system) is a popular upgrade.
What SEER rating should I choose?
Higher SEER2 means lower running costs. Two-stage and variable-speed models are also quieter and better at removing humidity. We'll show you the difference in your quote.
Can you install AC if I have no ductwork?
Yes — a ductless mini-split is the usual answer for homes with boilers, in-floor heat or baseboard heaters.
Do heat pumps work in a Saskatchewan winter?
Cold-climate models keep heating at very low temperatures — for example, the TOSOT APEX is rated to heat down to −30 °C. Because Saskatoon goes colder than that, we usually pair a heat pump with a gas furnace or electric backup.
Where do you put the outdoor unit?
On a stand or wall bracket above the typical snow line, away from roof run-off, so defrost water drains away and the coil isn't buried by drifts.
Can a heat pump use my existing ducts?
Usually, yes. We check your duct sizes and airflow during the visit.
Are there heat pump rebates in Saskatchewan?
Programs change often. We check what federal and provincial incentives are open on the day we quote and tell you in writing.
Is there a rebate for tankless water heaters in Saskatchewan?
Yes — SaskEnergy lists $1,000 for a tankless water heater with a UEF of 0.87 or higher, installed by a TSASK-licensed contractor. Apply within 90 days of installation.
Does my gas line need to be upgraded?
Sometimes. Tankless units use a lot of gas for short periods, so we check the line size and meter during the visit.
How long do tankless water heaters last?
With regular descaling, a quality tankless unit typically lasts longer than a tank. Some heat exchangers are covered for 15 years or more.
What size garage heater do I need?
An insulated double garage in Saskatoon is usually comfortable with about 45,000 BTU; a triple garage or poorly insulated shop needs more. We calculate it for your space.
Can you run a gas line to my detached garage?
Yes. Our TSASK-licensed gas fitters size and run the line, buried or overhead, and arrange the gas permit and inspection.
Gas, infrared or electric?
Gas unit heaters warm the air quickly and are the most common. Infrared heaters warm the floor and objects, so heat comes back fast after the door opens. Electric is simplest for small, well-insulated garages with no gas.
Is it safe to heat a garage where I work on vehicles?
Yes, with the right heater and clearances. Separated-combustion heaters take combustion air from outside, which keeps fumes and dust out of the burner. A CO alarm is always a good idea.
I smell gas — what should I do?
Leave the home right away and call SaskEnergy's 24-hour emergency line at 1-888-700-0427 or 911 from outside. Don't use switches or phones inside.
My furnace stopped on a very cold night — what can I check?
Make sure the outdoor intake and exhaust pipes aren't blocked by snow or frost, the filter isn't clogged and the furnace switch is on. If it still won't run, call us.
Is it worth repairing an old furnace?
If it's over 15 years old and needs a major part like a heat exchanger or control board, replacement is often better value — and may qualify for a SaskEnergy rebate. We'll give you both prices.
Tank or tankless?
A tank costs less up front; tankless gives endless hot water and saves space. Both can qualify for SaskEnergy rebates — we'll quote both.
Do you install propane water heaters?
Yes, for acreages and rural homes on propane.
Can you add heat to my basement development?
Yes — we extend supplies and returns from your existing system, or recommend a separate zone or in-floor heat.
Why is the room over my garage so cold?
The duct usually runs through or beside the cold garage ceiling. Insulating and sealing it, adding a return and sometimes a booster or separate zone fixes it.
What humidity should I keep in a Saskatchewan winter?
Lower than you'd think on very cold days — often around 25–35% — or your windows will frost. An automatic control adjusts it for the outdoor temperature.
Can a smart thermostat warn me if my heat fails?
Most can send a low-temperature alert to your phone. We set it up with you before we leave.
HRV or ERV — which do I need?
Most Saskatchewan homes use an HRV. An ERV also keeps some moisture indoors, which can help homes that get very dry. We'll check during the visit.
Is there a rebate?
SaskEnergy lists $100 for an ENERGY STAR certified HRV installed by a TSASK-licensed contractor.
Can I heat my garage floor?
Yes — in-floor tubing in a new slab connected to a boiler is one of the most comfortable ways to heat a garage or shop.
Can I add air conditioning to a home with a boiler?
Yes — ductless mini-splits are the usual answer.
What helps most with wildfire smoke?
A high-MERV media filter in a proper cabinet, running the furnace fan continuously on smoke days, and a portable HEPA purifier in bedrooms.
When should I book?
Furnaces and garage heaters in August to October, air conditioners in May — but any time is better than never.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes — tell us how many units you have and we'll propose a schedule.
Can you work after hours?
Yes, we can schedule around your business hours.
Do you handle gas piping?
Yes, our TSASK-licensed gas fitters install and modify gas lines for heaters and equipment, with TSASK permits.
Can you heat a quonset or farm shop?
Yes — radiant tube heaters or high-output unit heaters, sized for the building and how you use it.
