Saskatchewan homes are built tight to hold heat, which traps moisture, cooking smells and stale air — and leads to frost on windows in winter. A heat recovery ventilator (HRV) or energy recovery ventilator (ERV) exchanges the air continuously.
In our climate the defrost cycle matters: we install units rated for prairie cold, balance the airflow and set the controls so the core doesn't freeze.

Frequently asked questions
HRV or ERV — which do I need?
Most Saskatchewan homes use an HRV. An ERV also keeps some moisture indoors, which can help homes that get very dry. We'll check during the visit.
Is there a rebate?
SaskEnergy lists $100 for an ENERGY STAR certified HRV installed by a TSASK-licensed contractor.
