Frequently asked questions
What does Jora Mechanical Systems do?
Jora Mechanical Systems is a licensed heating, cooling, hot water and plumbing contractor. We install and repair furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, tankless and tank water heaters, AirMax air handlers, boilers, ductwork, HRV/ERV ventilation and commercial HVAC equipment.
What areas do you serve?

How do I get a quote?
Call 905-667-2823 or fill in the online quote form. We visit your home for free, check what you need and send you a written quote with equipment, labour and permits included.
Do you offer emergency service?
Yes. Our emergency line is open 24/7 at 905-667-2823.
What brands do you install?
Lennox, Carrier, Trane, KeepRite, Goodman, Kepler, TOSOT, Midea, Gree, Rinnai, Navien, Rheem, Bradford White, Noritz, AirMax.
How long does a furnace replacement take?
Most straightforward replacements are done in one day. New installs or jobs that need extra ductwork or venting can take longer — we'll tell you in your quote.
What size furnace do I need?
It depends on your home's heat loss — insulation, windows, square footage and air leakage — not just the size of the old unit. We calculate it during the free visit.
Should I replace my AC at the same time?
If your air conditioner is more than about 10–12 years old, replacing both together often makes sense because the indoor coil and blower are matched. We'll quote both options.
Are there rebates for furnaces?
Ontario's current Home Renovation Savings rebates focus on heat pumps, thermostats and insulation. A hybrid system (furnace + cold-climate heat pump) may qualify — ask us.
Should I get an AC or a heat pump?
A heat pump cools exactly like an AC and also heats your home efficiently in spring, fall and much of the winter. With Ontario rebates for cold-climate heat pumps, many homeowners now choose one instead of a plain AC.
What SEER rating should I choose?
Higher SEER2 means lower running costs. Two-stage and variable-speed models are also quieter and better at removing humidity. We'll show you the difference in your quote.
Can you install AC if I have no ductwork?
Yes — a ductless mini-split is the usual answer for homes with radiators or baseboard heat.
Do heat pumps work in an Ontario winter?
Cold-climate models keep heating at very low temperatures — for example, the TOSOT APEX is rated to heat down to −30 °C. Many homes also keep a gas furnace as backup for the coldest days.
How much is the rebate?
Ontario's Home Renovation Savings Program lists up to $7,500 for a cold-climate air-source heat pump, depending on size and eligibility. Programs change, so we confirm what's open when we quote.
Can a heat pump use my existing ducts?
Usually, yes. We check your duct sizes and airflow during the visit.
What's a hybrid system?
A heat pump plus a gas furnace. The heat pump does most of the work; the furnace takes over on the coldest days. It's a popular, efficient choice in the GTA.
Can I get out of my water heater rental?
Usually, yes. Rental contracts have buyout terms; we can help you understand the process and handle the removal and return of the rental tank.
Does my gas line need to be upgraded?
Sometimes. Tankless units use a lot of gas for short periods, so we check the line size and meter during the visit.
How long do tankless water heaters last?
With regular descaling, a quality tankless unit typically lasts longer than a tank. Check each brand's warranty — some heat exchangers are covered for 15 years or more.
What is a combo system?
One appliance — usually a tankless water heater — provides domestic hot water and heats water for the air handler, which warms the air in your ducts.
Can I add air conditioning to an air handler?
Yes. Most AirMax units take a DX cooling coil connected to an outdoor condenser or heat pump.
Do you service other air handler brands?
Yes — tell us the brand and model when you book.
I smell gas — what should I do?
Leave the home right away and call your gas utility's emergency line (Enbridge Gas in most of the GTA) or 911 from outside. Don't use switches or phones inside.
Do you repair all brands?
We service most residential brands of furnaces, ACs, heat pumps and water heaters.
Is it worth repairing an old furnace?
If it's over 15 years old and needs a major part like a heat exchanger or control board, replacement is often better value. We'll give you both prices.
Tank or tankless?
A tank costs less up front; tankless gives endless hot water and saves space. We'll quote both.
Can you remove my rental tank?
Yes, we can remove it and help you arrange the return.
Does my garage need to be insulated?
Insulation makes any heater work far better. We can size for an uninsulated space, but it will need a larger heater.
Gas or electric?
Gas is usually cheaper to run in larger or uninsulated spaces; electric is simpler for small, well-insulated garages.
Can you add heat to my finished basement?
Yes — we can extend supplies and returns from your existing system, or recommend a separate zone.
Does duct sealing help?
Leaky ducts lose heated and cooled air into walls and ceilings. Sealing the accessible joints usually improves comfort and airflow.
What humidity should I keep in winter?
Lower than in summer — usually around 30–40%, and lower on very cold days so windows don't fog up. A modern control adjusts this automatically.
Is there a rebate?
Ontario's Home Renovation Savings Program lists a smart thermostat rebate of up to $100 for eligible models. We confirm when we quote.
Do you offer emergency plumbing?
Yes — call 905-667-2823 any time.
HRV or ERV — which do I need?
Homes with high winter humidity usually suit an HRV; homes that get too dry often suit an ERV. We'll check during the visit.
How often should I clean the filters?
Typically every few months — more often if you have pets or renovation dust.
Can I add air conditioning to a home with a boiler?
Yes — ductless mini-splits or a high-velocity system are common options.
Will a better filter restrict airflow?
A thick media filter in a proper cabinet usually filters better with less restriction than a thin high-rated filter. We check airflow after installing.
When should I book?
Furnaces in early fall, air conditioners in spring — but any time is better than never.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes — tell us how many units you have and we'll propose a schedule.
Can you work after hours?
Yes, we can schedule around your business hours.
Do you handle gas piping?
Yes, our licensed gas technicians install and modify gas lines for heaters and equipment.
